Mining law and ESG expert Stephen Nthite joins innovative firm Thomson Wilks as a Consultant Attorney
Innovative ‘new age’ South African law firm Thomson Wilks Inc has continued its growth with today’ announcement that it has bolstered its team with mining, health and safety, ESG and corporate governance expert Stephen Thibedi Nthite.
The addition of highly experienced lawyer Stephen Thibedi Nthite as a Consultant Attorney in the Sandton office of Thomson Wilks Inc continues the innovative South African-based law firm’s recent growth, and bolsters its top-level expertise.

Nthite joins Thomson Wilks from Beech Veltman Inc, a leading mining, natural resources and energy focused law firm, where Stephen was a Director.
He has a particular passion for ESG with a commitment to developing an environment which facilitates mutually beneficial and harmonious relations between all parties in the mining ecosystem. Nthite has represented mining companies in Section 60 and 65 inquiries, and is highly regarded for his work on community and stakeholder-relations issues linked to ESG commitments.
Calling it “an exciting professional move”, Nthite will now be part of the multidisciplinary team at Thomson Wilks, based in the Sandton offices.
“I will pursue my passion in areas of law such as ESG, Mining Law, Mine Health and Safety and Employment Law,” he shared today. “I look forward to executing this challenging and interesting role with passion and diligence.”
A B Juris, LLB graduate of North-West University in South Africa, Nthite was admitted to the bar in 1998, after working as a researcher for Justice Tholakele Madala at the Constitutional Court, then being a candidate attorney at leading firm Denys Reitz (currently Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa). He trained in mining law, commercial law and litigation, and employment law, among other practices.
During his legal career Nthite has led his own firm, Nthite Attorneys (2010-2017), worked at TNA Attorneys, been a Trustee of Kopano Ke Matla Trust, and an Independent Non Executive Director of African Equity Empowerment Investments Limited. He has provided pro bono legal services to various NGOs, including the John Kgoana Nkadimeng Foundation and the Seth Mazibuko Foundation.
