South African lawyer Louis Stroebel scoops Global Innovator Award at AGA Excellence Awards 2025

In recent days, Alliott Global Alliance held its Worldwide Conference in Toronto, gathering representatives from its 240+ law and accounting member firms in over 100 countries, and announced the winners of of its 2025 Excellence Awards

South African corporate and commercial lawyer Louis Stroebel was honoured at the recent 2025 Alliott Global Alliance (AGA) Excellence Awards in Toronto for his work on CortixaAI, a ground-breaking legal AI platform that addresses the challenges faced by middle-market law firms in adopting secure, practical, and efficient AI tools.

Stroebel has been Managing Partner of Stroebel Singh Theunissen Incorporated (better known as SST Attorneys), a South African law firm serving a wide geographic area from its established practices in Pretoria and Sasolburg, since 2014. 

During the AGA Worldwide Conference in Toronto, Stroebel was one of eight individuals and law firms to be named Global Winners across eight categories ranging from International Business Development to Social Responsibility Pioneer.

Stroebel scooped the Innovator Award, presented to forward-thinking firms or individuals “who dared to be different” or have led innovation or tech-centric projects that help transform how professional services operate and collaborate globally.

The winners of the Excellence Awards - which celebrate outstanding talent, dedication, and leadership - exemplify the values and collaborative spirit that makes AGA such a distinctive and forward-thinking alliance, said Giles Brake, AGA CEO. 

With 240 member firms operating out of over 100 countries, the Alliott Global Alliance is a worldwide alliance of independent legal, accounting, and advisory firms. At the Excellence Awards in Toronto last weekend, the winners ranged from Stroebel and SST Attorneys in South Africa to lawyers and law or accountancy firms spanning the globe from Brussels, London, and other European centres, to Los Angeles, to the Dominican Republic, Colombia, and South Korea, among others.

In addition, the prestigious Alliance Champion Award was presented to Harm Borrie of Borrie Accountants (Amsterdam & Rotterdam) for his years of dedication, passion, and commitment to help shape the Alliance, and inspire the global community.

Outside of his award-winning innovative work leading the CortixaAI project at SST Attorneys, Stroebel, who was admitted to the South African bar in 2009 and holds an LLM in Import/Export Law from the University of the North West, has built a distinguished legal practice specializing in mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions, private equity structures, and corporate governance. 

His expertise extends to business structuring, B-BBEE ownership strategies, intellectual property transactions, and data protection compliance.
