Together as One: Alliott Global Alliance strengthens West African presence with addition of OAKS Legal

With 230 member firms operating out of over 100 countries, the Alliott Global Alliance is a worldwide network of independent legal, accounting, and advisory firms. Now it has announced the appointment of OAKS Legal as its exclusive law firm in Ghana.

The vision OAKS Legal has to become Ghana’s leading, forward-thinking law firm with both African and international reach, aligns perfectly with Alliott Global Alliance (AGA)’s strategic goals for the African region, and significantly strengthens the support the alliance can offer in West Africa, says Giles Brake, CEO of AGA.

Headquartered in Accra, OAKS Legal was established last year by founding partners Major Selasie Atuwo, Kwabena Oppong-Kyekyeku, and Frank Atese Kwabena Amuh, all of whom were mentored by the late Cynthia Quarcoo, former Managing Partner at CQ Legal, AGA’s previous Ghanaian law firm member. A leading corporate and finance lawyer who practiced in Ghana and the UK, Cynthia passed away in 2023.

The leadership team at OAKS Legal possesses a wealth of expertise, with Managing Partner Atuwo having over 26 years’ experience in legal practice, investigations, risk management, compliance and military service. Oppong-Kyekyeku is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and was previously a finalist for the Private Practice Most Promising Newcomer Award at the African Legal Awards 2021.

Fellow co-founder and partner Amuh leads the firm’s Land, Property and Real Estate practice, working primarily with multinational clients, and recently completed his Master's programme in Natural Resources Law, with the aim of establishing OAKS Legal’s environmental, mining, energy, and infrastructure practice group.

The OAKS Legal founders are determined to continue Cynthia’s legacy of empowering young African lawyers. Alongside the three founding partners, the firm also has 10 other staff: associates, consultants, a clerk, pupil, and business support.

The firm specialises in real estate, banking and finance, capital markets, corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution, TMT law, focusing on data privacy, artificial intelligence and FinTech. Its clients include organisations in real estate, financial services, technology, religious groups, and non-governmental organisations.

“With prior knowledge of Alliott Global Alliance, the OAKS Legal team immediately understands how to operate within a collaborative alliance and how to maximise the benefits of membership,” says Brake. “It’s a pleasure to welcome Selasie, Kwabena, Frank, and the entire team at OAKS Legal as our legal representative in Ghana.”

Adding OAKS Legal strengthens AGA’s presence in West Africa and reinforces the Alliance’s commitment to providing a truly global alliance of offices providing cross border legal, tax, audit, advisory and accounting services to internationally focused companies and private clients. The Alliance now extends to 105 countries.

“Through our membership of Alliott Global Alliance, we seek to attract international clients, strengthen our local presence, and position the firm as a trusted ally for navigating complex legal landscapes in Ghana, across Africa, and globally,” says Atuwo. “We also look forward to working alongside our AGA colleagues in the region and worldwide to collaborate on business opportunities, share best practices and expand our service offering.”

The Alliott Global Alliance now ranks among the largest multidisciplinary alliances in Africa, with representation in Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Libya, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania (& Zanzibar), Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
