Highly experienced tax specialist Liesl Kruger joins Spencer West South Africa
International law firm Spencer West has further strengthened its growing African footprint with the recently announced arrival as a Tax Services Partner of highly experienced South African tax specialist Liesl Kruger, who has spent over 25 years in leading tax practices
With a background of over 25 years in leading African tax practices, Liesl Kruger “combines deep technical expertise with a pragmatic, solutions‑driven approach” said Spencer West as the international firm recently announced the highly experienced lawyer had joined Spencer West South Africa as a Tax Services Partner.

A law and commerce graduate of the University of Stellenbosch, with an LLM in Banking and Company Law from the University of South Africa, Liesl has during her career worked as a tax consultant for Deloitte and KPMG in Cape Town, and as a Director of Tax Services for leading law firms Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and ENS Africa.
Liesl’s practice spans corporate tax, financial services taxation, international structuring and cross‑border operations, anti‑avoidance rules, capital gains tax, and dispute resolution with SARS. She has advised listed companies, multinationals, and financial institutions across a wide range of sectors, including retail, mining, banking, insurance, and investment management. Her experience also covers company restructurings, share incentive schemes, employees’ tax, and the taxation of trusts.

Originally established in London in 2014 as a ‘consultant model law firm’, Spencer West officially launched its full South African office in Johannesburg last November.
The international firm had previously established a presence in East Africa with the launch of its Kenyan office in early 2024, then as reported by Africa Legal it added a Rwandan office in July 2025, then a new Mauritius office earlier this year.
Last month Spencer West South Africa announced the arrival of US-trained lawyer, financial services expert, and longtime in-house counsel Calvin Christopher as a Regulatory and Compliance partner in Johannesburg.
