Dentons Mauritius continues its strong growth with the promotion of six talented lawyers to partner
Launched in 2018 through a combination of global firm Dentons and elite Mauritian firms, Mardemootoo Solicitors and Balgobin Chambers, Dentons Mauritius is a market-leading law firm with heritage dating back to the 1940s. Looking to its future, it has this month announced the elevation of six lawyers to partner
The dedication, expertise, and commitment to excellence of newly appointed partners Hemrani Guttoo, Sandrine Wong Tung, Jeeshna Radhakissoon, Lylah Joorawon, Emmanuel Luchmun, and Pawan Choonucksing has consistently contributed to the success of clients and the growth of the firm, said Dentons Mauritius when announcing the career milestones for the six talented lawyers.
“My sincere thanks go to our Managing Partner, Mr Sivakumaren Mardemootoo and our Senior Partner, Mrs Priscilla Balgobin-Bhoyrul SC, for their trust, mentorship and continued confidence in me over the years,” shared Pawan, who joined the firm in early 2020 after being called to the local bar. “Their leadership and guidance have greatly contributed to my growth within the firm. I am equally grateful to my colleagues and the entire team at Dentons Mauritius for their support, collaboration and commitment to excellence… I would also like to thank our clients, peers, friends and family for their continued trust and support throughout this journey.”
Pawan has been an integral member of the firm’s litigation and advisory practice, says Denton Mauritius. He has developed a broad and robust practice encompassing mainly civil law, commercial law, financial crimes, domestic and international arbitration, employment law, and family law. Pawan has also been actively involved in the development of law and policy relating to Artificial Intelligence. As part of Dentons Mauritius’ AI legal team, he advises corporate clients on compliance and regulatory implications of emerging technologies. He has also delivered numerous training sessions and presentations for management companies and insurance institutions on financial crimes and regulatory obligations.
Hemrani first joined the firm in 2013 as a legal intern and became a full-fledged member of the litigation team after admission to the bar. Hemrani is now a member of the Restructuring Insolvency and Bankruptcy practice groups and a Registered Insolvency Practitioner. Trained in both the English common law and French civil law, Hemrani specialises in insolvency law, commercial law, banking and financial law. She is often solicited by domestic and foreign clients to advise on commercial disputes and bankruptcy and insolvency-related transactions and litigation.
A law graduate of the University of London, Sandrine joined the firm as an intern in 2016, later becoming a member of the litigation team. She has experience in several areas of law including Civil, Contract, Family, Industrial, Commercial, Administrative, Bankruptcy/Insolvency, Banking and Finance. Sandrine regularly appears before the Courts of Mauritius, and also advises clients in domestic arbitration proceedings.
Jeeshna is likewise a member of the Dentons Mauritius litigation team, having joined the firm in February 2018, following a year of pupillage. She has experience in corporate advisory and has advised on matters relating to competition law, trusts and equity, and banking and finance. Jeeshna also drafts pleadings and handles proceedings before Mauritian tribunals and courts, and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, and has experience in domestic arbitration proceedings.
Previously a Managing Associate, Lylah is part of the Corporate Advisory team at Dentons Mauritius, practicing in commercial, fintech, and real estate. In recent years, she has gained significant experience on renewable energy projects, supporting clients on their ventures with the Central Electricity Board. Lylah has also advised major commercial banks on legal issues related to cybersecurity and routinely advises fintech companies on business transactions and regulatory matters.
Emmanuel is part of both the litigation and corporate teams. His main areas of practice are commercial and civil law, with a focus on M&A, corporate finance, real estate, commercial litigation and arbitration. He has a keen interest in complex cross-border commercial disputes. Emmanuel is very involved in the Dentons Mauritius pro-bono practice and is committed to the advancement of fundamental rights, education and environment protection. He works with several NGOs on a professional and personal level, and often represents them in various legal matters.
“We congratulate them on this important milestone and look forward to their continued leadership and contribution to the firm’s future,” says Dentons Mauritius.
