AI & Insurance Law specialist Sean Isaac Addo-Mensah joins leading Ghanaian firm Oaks Legal as Insurance Consultant

Established in 2024, OAKS Legal is a future-focused Ghanaian law firm with regional and international reach. Last week it bolstered its ‘future-focused’ ethos and mission with the addition of AI and Insurtech specialist Sean Isaac Addo-Mensah

Newly hired Insurance Law Consultant Sean Isaac Addo-Mensah brings a rare dual perspective, combining hands-on industry experience with deep legal expertise in insurance law, and is also positioned at the intersection of law, regulation, and innovation, says Oaks Legal, the Ghanaian member firm of the Alliott Global Alliance.

“It's an honour to officially join this great team,” says Addo-Mensah, who has earned a Master’s in Insurance Law from the University of Law, London, and a Professional Insurtech Certificate from Fintech Global. “My enthusiasm for insurance law is certainly not in dispute to anyone who knows me by now, and I'm happy to put that expertise to use with OAKS Legal… Let's get down to business now.”

Headquartered in Accra, OAKS Legal was established in April 2024 by Major Selasie Atuwo, Kwabena Oppong-Kyekyeku, and Frank Atese Kwabena Amuh, all of whom were mentored by the late Cynthia Quarcoo, a leading corporate and finance lawyer.

The founders of OAKS Legal are determined to continue Cynthia’s legacy of empowering young Africans. The words “forward-thinking” and “futuristic” are key parts of their vision and mission statement, and last year the firm joined Alliott Global Alliance, a worldwide alliance of independent legal, accounting, and advisory firms that includes 240 member firms operating out of more than 100 countries.

Addo-Mensah’s journey in the insurance sector spans underwriting and claims exposure at Ghana Union Assurance and Allianz Insurance, as well as legal practice and advanced specialisation, reflecting both technical depth and strategic insight.

More recently he has been expanding his expertise in AI law and Insurtech, particularly in how regulations like the EU AI Act, the first comprehensive regulation on AI by a major regulator, shape insurance and compliance frameworks. He actively researches and writes industry articles to help professionals navigate this new and evolving landscape. “I am deeply excited about the prospects Insurtech has for the industry, and I eagerly look forward to connecting with other professionals who share my passion for the intersection of law, insurance, and technology.”

His addition bolsters OAKS Legal’s focus on technology, which Atuwo (who holds an LLM in Information Technology Law) and Oppong-Kyekyeku previously told Africa Legal is a key practice area for emerging markets such as Ghana and West Africa.

“We are confident that Sean’s expertise will enhance our ability to deliver forward-thinking legal solutions in an increasingly complex risk environment.”
