Etana Energy looks to a brighter future as it plugs in regulatory expert Vivienne Jonker as a Senior Legal Counsel
Etana Energy is a majority black-controlled clean electricity trader that supplies electricity generated by renewable energy projects to business customers in South Africa. Among several new hires across the wider business, it has now added talented corporate and public law expert Vivienne Jonker to its team
After boosting its talent base across operations, financial control, customer sales, and energy analysis to begin 2026, South African clean electricity trader Etana Energy also last week announced that it is thrilled to welcome corporate law and public law specialist Vivienne Jonker as its new Senior Legal Counsel.
“Vivienne specialises in public sector commercial and regulatory matters, particularly in the energy sector,” said the organisation. “Vivienne’s strength in navigating regulated environments, together with her project experience and commitment to service delivery and good governance, will be a valuable asset as Etana continues to operate in South Africa’s evolving electricity market.”
A law graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, with an LLM in Human Rights Law and Litigation, Vivienna began her legal career eight years ago as a candidate attorney with leading African law firm Bowmans, and most recently was a Senior Associate in the Public Law team at ENSafrica, the continent’s largest law firm.
She has advised on complex regulatory matters related to South Africa’s transition to a competitive electricity supply market, including the South African Wholesale Electricity Market (SAWEM) Code, NERSA’s Rules for Electricity Trading, wheeling and grid access, as well as municipal procurement of renewable energy IPPs.
“At such a pivotal time in the energy sector, I’m super excited to be joining Etana Energy in the world of renewable energy trading,” shared Vivienne when announcing she was leaving ENSafrica, where she’d gotten to work “on South Africa’s most fascinating (and tricky!) public sector matters and projects”; a highlight was advising on various aspects of South Africa’s transition to a competitive electricity market.
With offices in Cape Town, Gqeberha, and Johannesburg, Etana Energy is a South African majority black-controlled clean electricity trader that supplies electricity generated by renewable energy projects to business customers in South Africa.
