Africa Legal co-founder Scott Cowan among nominees for AfBC African Business Awards 2025

Business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, policymakers, academics, and professionals from around the globe will gather in London on 3 July for the AfBC African Business Awards, celebrating exceptional leaders and trailblazing entrepreneurs.

The African Business Chamber (AfBC), a global organisation dedicated to representing and supporting African businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs as they grow and thrive in the global economy, has revealed the nominees for its 2025 African Business Awards, which highlight excellence across a range of sectors.

Africa Legal co-founder and CEO Scott Cowan has been nominated for the Business Excellence Award category at this year’s AfBC African Business Awards.

“I’m deeply honoured and humbled to be nominated for this award, to receive this recognition is a moment of real gratitude and reflection,” says Cowan, who along with his leadership role with Africa Legal is also on the Board of Trustees of Spotlight on Africa, a developmental charity that provides clean water, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment to children and communities in Eastern Uganda.

“Congratulations to all the incredible nominees of the African Business Awards - your dedication and impact are truly inspiring,” says Cowan. “Wishing each of you the very best of luck as we continue to champion excellence in our respective fields.”

The Awards evening and Gala Dinner in London on Thursday, 3 July is set to bring together business leaders, government officials, investors, entrepreneurs, diasporas, experts, policymakers, academics, and professionals from around the globe to honour African excellence, professionalism, and business achievements.

A variety of Excellence Awards will be presented for Business Leaders, Entrepreneurs, New Business of the Year, Technology and Innovation, Healthcare, Creative Industry, Financial Services, Professional Excellence, African Women in Business, International Trade, Social Enterprise, and Diaspora in Business.

Nigerian and British barrister Oba Nsugbe KC SAN, who has an international practice focused on Africa-related dispute resolution and was named one of Africa’s top 30 arbitrators in 2022, is among the nominees for the Professional Excellence Award.

“The AfBC Business Awards is just a small token of appreciation for the remarkable service shown by the shortlisted individuals and businesses,” says Dr Quaye Botchway, Chair of AfBC. “You have done more than solving a problem or delivering a service. You have opened up a whole new range of possibilities. You saw a challenge many had accepted as unsolvable, and you refused to accept that limit. Your approach was unusual, even risky. You combined technologies in ways never tried before. You brought together experts from different fields, creating a team that could examine the problem from every angle. And when you faced setbacks, you treated them not as failures, but as useful information guiding you toward the solution. These are the qualities that we cherish as an African Business Chamber.”

Special guests announced for the AfBC Annual African Business Awards and Gala Dinner on Thursday, 3 July include: Dr Morie Komba Manyeh, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the UK; Ethiopian Ambassador Biruk M. Demissie; HRM Queen Naa Tsotsoo Soyoo I from the Ga tribe of Greater Accra Region of Ghana; and Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP, the Member of Parliament for Clapham & Brixton Hill.
