Zambian firm MMLP deepens mining, energy, and infrastructure expertise by adding Mutinta Zulu as a partner
Established in 1998, Mulenga Mundashi Legal Practitioners is a top tier Zambian corporate and commercial law firm, based in Lusaka. It has now boosted its ranks by scooping mining, energy, and infrastructure expert Mutinta Zulu as a new partner
The addition of Mutinta Annel Zulu as a new partner for its mining, energy, and infrastructure practices is part of Mulenga Mundashi Legal Practitioners (MMLP)’s’ deliberate strategy to deepen its bench in sectors that are central to Zambia’s economic future, said the firm this week, while also advancing gender diversity within practice areas where female representation remains underrepresented.
Mining, energy and infrastructure have traditionally been male-dominated fields in both industry and legal practice. The top-tier Zambian corporate and commercial law firm, first established in 1998, views Mutinta’s appointment as an important step in building a team that reflects the diversity of its clients and communities it serves.
“We are delighted to welcome Mutinta to the firm,” said Mulenga Chiteba, Managing Partner for MMLP, adding she was an invaluable addition to their team. “Her appointment strengthens our ability to deliver specialist advisory services in mining, energy, and infrastructure - sectors that are central to Zambia’s economic future.”
A graduate of the University of Zambia, who earned an LLM in Environmental Law from the University of Cape Town in 2023, Mulinta brings over 10 years of experience advising on complex energy, mining, infrastructure and finance transactions. She holds deep expertise in mining, energy and real estate law, and is widely recognised for guiding clients through environmental and regulatory compliance matters. Mulinta’s ability to advise both private sector stakeholders and public institutions has established her as a trusted legal partner across diverse industries.
Mulinta shared her own delight in joining MMLP on social media.
She joins the leading Zambian firm from Lusaka-based Corpus Legal Practitioners, where she rose through the ranks over the past 11 years from legal intern to partner.
During her career she has been involved in some of Zambia’s pioneering energy projects, including Scaling Solar, which she says has deepened her understanding of sector‑specific regulations, particularly the legal aspects of establishing solar projects, off‑grid and mini‑grid power systems, and power wheeling.
“We are confident that Mutinta's expertise and track record will be a tremendous asset to our clients and our firm,” said MMLP. She joins MMLP as Partner - Mining, Energy & Infrastructure at a time when Zambia’s mining and energy sectors are experiencing significant investor interest, driven by global demand for critical minerals and the nation’s expanding energy infrastructure.
The firm said Mutinta’s hire reflects its commitment to ensuring clients have access to senior-level, specialist legal counsel in these high-growth sectors.
Zambia is rich in critical minerals vital for the global energy transition, including copper, cobalt, lithium, graphite, and manganese, with its resources now attracting significant international interest. MMLP advises a broad client base comprising multinational corporations, financial institutions, government entities and development finance institutions operating across Zambia’s key economic sectors.
