Rive & Co adds multidisciplinary expert Dr David Mestres Ridge to lead its Energy and Resources practice
Fast-growing Tanzanian law firm Rive & Co has continued its expansion with the announcement that Dr David Mestres Ridge, who has a background in geology and engineering along with law and corporate finance, has joined the firm as a new partner.

David has a background in both science and law, and has a degree in Applied Geology, an MSc in Mining Geology, a PhD in Chemical Engineering, an LLB, and an LLM in the disposal of offshore platforms. He began his career with TotalEnergies before working as an independent M&A and business development consultant for oil companies in the North Sea and North Africa.
After working as a Vice-President in the Oil and Gas ECM and the Equity Research teams of the Royal Bank of Canada, he assisted Black Marlin Energy on its IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange, and founded Swala Oil & Gas (Tanzania) Limited in 2010.
David has most recently been involved in corporate finance and energy developments in Africa, Europe and Australia, and since completing his law degree has worked on a number of legal matters in multiple jurisdictions.
He joins a growing East African powerhouse at Rive & Co, alongside more than 30 of Tanzania’s most dedicated lawyers; a team representing a synergy of veteran wisdom and dynamic, forward-thinking legal talent.
