Nigerian firm Pentagon Partners elevates Martha Rotoye to partner among anniversary celebrations

Established in 2014, Pentagon Partners Legal Practitioners is a full-service Nigerian commercial law firm with offices in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. Among anniversary celebrations this month the firm also strengthened its governance, risk and compliance leadership with the promotion of Martha Rotoye to partner

Being elevated to partner at Pentagon Partners Legal Practitioners represents both an honour and a deep sense of responsibility, and reflects years of learning, discipline, and the confidence placed in her by colleagues and mentors who have challenged her to grow, lead, and contribute with purpose, says Martha Rotoye.

“I am grateful for the Partners and the entire team whose high standards and support have been instrumental to my journey,” she shared yesterday. “As I step into this role, I am reminded that meaningful progress is never achieved in isolation - it is built on shared effort, strong values, and a commitment to excellence.”

Rotoye joined Pentagon Partners in January 2024, transitioning back to private practice after serving for almost a dozen years in various in-house legal roles for the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, including Chief Legal Officer.

A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Rotoye leads the firm’s Governance, Risk and Compliance team to consistently dispense multi-disciplinary and specialist solutions to clients. She practices in corporate governance, company secretarial services, board evaluation, intellectual property, media and entertainment law, compliance, regulatory licensing, estates and probates, data protection, executive compensation, business integrity, employee benefits, and share incentives.

Rotoye is a member of the Capital Markets Association, a member of the Section on Business Law and In-House Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association, an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria, and a Designate Compliance Professional of the Compliance Institute of Nigeria.

Describing itself as “a quintessential firm focused on cutting through complexities to deliver practical and effective solutions to clients’ needs in a sustainable manner”, Pentagon Partners celebrated its twelfth anniversary this month with two milestones: Rotoye’s promotion to partner, and the renaming of its National Essay Competition in honour of one of the firm’s late founders, Eghosa Courage Isibor.

“I also take this moment to honour the legacy of our late founding partner, Eghosa Courage Isibor, whose vision, brilliance, and standard of excellence continue to guide the path forward,” shared Rotoye yesterday. “His impact remains enduring, and I am committed to advancing the work he so passionately pioneered.”

Isibor, described as “a man of unwavering integrity, boundless generosity, and exceptional intellect” who lived a life of purpose, “touching countless lives with his wisdom, kindness, and steadfast commitment to justice”, passed away suddenly in January last year. On 1 April 2014, he co-founded Pentagon Partners Legal Practitioners alongside Kanayo Chuks Okoye and Odiaka Vincent Iweze.

Established by the firm in 2022, the National Essay Competition for final-year law students across Nigerian universities will now be known as the Eghosa Courage Isibor National Essay Competition. “Eghosa embodied excellence, mentorship, and a deep commitment to developing young lawyers,” says Okoye, the firm’s Managing Partner. “This competition preserves that legacy by providing students with a national platform to demonstrate rigorous legal thinking.”

This year’s essay competition is currently open for submissions (with a deadline of 30 April), with the topic of “Electronic Transmission of Results under Nigeria’s Electoral Act 2026: Reform or Illusion”. The call for entries reflects the firm’s continuing commitment to academic excellence, youth development, and legal scholarship.
