Fasken promotes banking and finance lawyer Lesego Modise to Senior Associate in its Johannesburg office

Leading international law firm Fasken, which more than 950 lawyers and ten offices on three continents, announced today that Lesego Modise had been promoted to Senior Associate in the Fasken Johannesburg Finance & Projects practice group

The belief of Fasken partners Simone Bryson and Ashen Jugoo has helped make a real difference to talented South African banking and finance lawyer Lesego Modise’s career, she says, after it was announced earlier today by the international firm’s South African office that Modise had been promoted to Senior Associate.

“I’ve truly learned that a supportive working environment makes all the difference,” shared Lesego, who first joined the firm in June 2024. “At Fasken, I’ve found a space that has built my confidence and pushed me to grow both professionally and personally … I am so excited for this new adventure—here’s to closing more deals!”

Part of the Finance and Projects practice group in Johannesburg, Lesego has experience in assisting on business rescue proceedings, funding transactions, and conducting due diligence. She has advised private and public institutions, investment companies, and banks in relation to general finance transactions in their capacities as lender and borrower, including drafting various loan and facility agreements, producing legal opinions in finance transactions, and for transaction management aspects of finance deals including CP Checks and Bibles.

Lesego’s promotion to Senior Associate is a “well-deserved recognition” that “highlights her hard work and commitment to our clients and the firm”, said Fasken in their congratulatory announcement, wishing her every success in her new role.

A University of Johannesburg law graduate, Lesego began her legal career as an intern at entertainment company Multichoice Group, before completing her Candidate Attorney process across the Corporate Commercial, Dispute Resolution, and Banking and Finance teams at CMS South Africa. She later became an associate in CMS South Africa’s banking and finance team, before joining Fasken in 2024.

Fasken, an international law firm with more than 950 lawyers across ten offices on three continents, traces its African roots back to company and mining law expert William Henry Somerset Bell commencing practice in Grahamstown in 1879, before he moved to Johannesburg in 1886 and established what would later become Bell Dewar. More than 125 years later, Bell Dewar merged in 2013 with Fasken Martineau, an international business law and litigation firm based out of Canada.
