Exceptional professionalism, leadership, and dedication: two new Legal Directors announced for DLA Piper, Tanzania
One of Tanzania’s leading full-service corporate and commercial law firms, DLA Piper Africa, Tanzania (IMMMA Advocates) has announced the internal promotion from Senior Associate to Legal Director of two lawyers who began with the firm as interns
The journey of employment and dispute resolution advocates Miriam Bachuba and Faiza Salah from interns at DLA Piper Africa, Tanzania (IMMMA Advocates) to their promotion from Senior Associates to Legal Directors reflects the East African firm’s “deep commitment to developing talent from within and rewarding excellence at every stage”, said the firm as it announced the promotions, effective 1 July.
“They embody our succession philosophy: that strong institutions are built through continuity, mentorship, and belief in people,” said DLA Piper Africa, Tanzania, when announcing the duo’s “well earned and well deserved” promotions this week.
A graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam, Miriam joined IMMMA Advocates as a Legal Intern in July 2014. She also has a Masters in Refugees and Immigration Law.
Miriam advises clients on employment legislation, employment standards, procedures for termination on retrenchment, disciplinary or performance reasons, finding resolutions and mitigation of risks in relation to employment and labor relations, employment law compliance, and data privacy and protection.
Along with representing clients in employment and civil dispute resolution, Miriam also leads IMMMA Advocates’ pro-bono practice, in collaboration with DLA Piper’s pro bono initiative, New Perimeter, and DLA Piper Africa in delivery of pro bono services to both local and international clients.
A law graduate of Mzumbe University, Faiza began at the firm as a Legal Intern in 2013. A member of the Litigations, Arbitration, and Regulatory team, she has successfully represented financial institutions in several cases involving recoveries and securities at the High Courts of Tanzania. She has also represented local and foreign companies at the High Courts and successfully settled companies’ disputes by way of arbitration. She also assists the Employment team in labor related matters.
In what the firm described as “a significant milestone” in its growth and regional footprint, in February Faiza was admitted to the Bar of Zanzibar, alongside Director Libent Rwazo. “After more than 12 years since our last Zanzibar admissions, this moment represents a strategic expansion of our legal bench and a renewed commitment to delivering seamless, high-caliber legal solutions to our clients.”
DLA Piper Africa, Tanzania says Miriam and Faiza have consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism, leadership, and dedication to the firm’s clients. “As they step into this new chapter, we are confident they will continue to shape the future of our firm and inspire the next generation of lawyers who will follow in their footsteps.”
Headquartered in Dar es Salaam, IMMMA Advocates was originally established in 1997 and now has an additional office in Zanzibar. It is a member firm of DLA Piper Africa, a Swiss verein whose membership is comprised of independent African law firms, operates in 20 countries across the continent, offering unrivalled local skill and presence, backed by the resources of DLA Piper, one of the world's largest law firms.
