Raising a toast: Sandra Adu-Gyamfi rejoins Guinness Ghana as Corporate Relations Director & Company Secretary

Following board approval at a meeting held on 28 October, legal, governance, and business professional Sandra Adu-Gyamfi has returned to Guinness Ghana Breweries, after previously serving as the brewer’s Assistant Legal Counsel from 2017-2022.

Leadership is not just about being good at what you do or meeting targets and delivering results, says newly appointed Guinness Ghana Breweries Company Secretary Sandra Adu-Gyamfi, it must also be about the people delivering those results.

“You must be intentional about making the people you lead just as good, if not better,” shared Adu-Gyamfi this week, as she reflected on her own leadership journey at the intersection of law, governance and business.

Last week, Adu-Gyamfi was appointed by Guinness Ghana as its new Company Secretary and Corporate Relations Director, seeing the in-house legal leader return to an organisation where she had previously served as Assistant Legal Counsel for five years, up until she joined dairy multinational Danone in July 2022.

“Good leadership is leaving the team better than you found it,” she continued. “Better equipped. More confident. More capable. And ready to succeed, even without you. So perhaps the question we should be asking ourselves as leaders is not just ‘What have I achieved?’ but ‘Who has become better because I led them?’”

A graduate of the University of Ghana, with an LLM in International Corporate and Commercial Law from the King’s College, London, Adu-Gyamfi spent the past few years as General Counsel at Danone, and has been in in-house roles for more than a decade, after beginning her legal career at Addison & Associates in Accra.

She took the baton as Company Secretary of Guinness Ghana from Kelvin Boateng Koranteng, with the Board publicly welcoming her to the role in a stock exchange notice on 2 November, and expressing its appreciation to Koranteng for his service.

In the official notice, Guinness Ghana noted Adu-Gyamfi’s more than 13 years of experience in legal advisory, corporate governance, regulatory affairs, and compliance across multinational organisations, and that in her past role as General Counsel and Company Secretary at Fan Milk Plc (the Ghanaian subsidiary of giant French multinational Danone) she’d advised the Board and Executive Leadership Team and provided legal, governance and risk oversight across Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo and Benin, while played a leading role in Fan Milk's B Corp certification journey.
