British Nigeria Law Forum to mark approach to 25th anniversary with unprecedented conference and gala in Lagos

For the first time ever, the British Nigeria Law Forum (BNLF) is bringing its flagship Summit ‘home’. Its Nigeria Summit 2025 will host legal, business, and political leaders over 26-27 June

The future of law is global, and Nigeria, with its youthful population, growing tech industry, and expanding legal market, cannot be ignored, say Kash Balogun and Genevieve Wakeley-Jones, the Chair and Vice-Chair of British Nigeria Law Forum.

It is fitting that as the BNLF approaches their 25th anniversary - a beacon of cross-border legal collaboration that has grown from a UK-based network of Nigerian lawyers into a powerhouse of influence, mentorship, and commercial connectivity - will bring its flagship Summit home to Nigeria. The two-day conference and gala, themed “Strengthening Legal and Business Ties Between the UK and Nigeria: Navigating Opportunities and Challenges” is set for 26-27 June on Victoria Island in Lagos.

“The BNLF has always championed the synergy between UK and Nigerian legal professionals,” says Wakeley-Jones, a dual-qualified solicitor whose legal practice covers business, insolvency and IT law. “After nearly 25 years, we felt it was time to anchor this mission physically in Nigeria. Lagos, being a major legal and economic hub, offers the perfect setting to deepen that connection.”

With roots in the UK and branches reaching deep into Nigeria’s legal and business ecosystems, the BNLF has served as a launchpad for legal reforms, thought leadership, and cross-border dealmaking. Now, it is bringing that same energy, expertise, and elite network directly to the continent with its Nigeria Summit 2025.

It is more than a conference; it is a diplomatic, cultural, and professional reunion.

Touted as one of the most anticipated bilateral legal events of the decade, the Summit brings together more than 200 delegates, from law firm partners and in-house counsel to regulators, business leaders, tech innovators, and policymakers.

Invitees include Nigerian Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun; Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the former Chief Justice; Attorney-General Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; and Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCO, the former Vice President of Nigeria.

With a focus on strengthening legal and business ties, the Summit will foster collaboration, spark strategic dialogue, and create enduring partnerships.

From the opening keynote to thought-provoking debates, panels, and workshops, and a special showcase of emerging legal talent, it promises a rich programme of learning, networking, and collaboration. “We’re not only celebrating collaboration but also tackling real-world legal challenges,” says Wakeley-Jones. “We're aiming to equip participants with tools to overcome these hurdles.”

Topics will include artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency in law, accessing international markets, and mastering cross-border dispute resolution.

The Summit culminates in a Gala Dinner, celebrating excellence and showcasing Nigerian culture - with a stylish green-themed traditional dress code.
