Using tech to level the playing field

In honour of Women’s Month, the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice is hosting a legal tech event. The aim is to explore the intersection of technology and law, highlighting its potential to drive positive change and equality within the legal sector, particularly for women in leadership roles.

As we embrace the digital age, the legal landscape is undergoing a remarkable transformation. The event on Tech-Driven Legal Transformation will be co-hosted by Naomi Thompson, a legal innovation specialist.

“We will have insightful conversation exploring the potential for legal tech in reshaping legal practices, enhancing accessibility, and empowering women in leadership roles,” commented Thompson.

The expert panel at the event consists of influential figures in both law and technology, who will share their perspectives on leveraging digital innovation to create a more inclusive legal environment. They will discuss real-world examples, innovative strategies, and the potential opportunities and obstacles that lie ahead for women in leadership positions within South Africa's legal community.

The keynote address will be given by Dr Megan Ma, Assistant Director at Stanford Center for Legal Informatics (CodeX). Panellists include: Aalia Manie(Head: Legal Solutions & Technology | Webber Wentzel), Laura-Jane Jacobs (AWW Mentorship Committee Member | DLA Piper), Rorisang Mzozoyana(Senior Legal Counsel | Property Finance), Catherine-Jane Paulse (Co-founder of BriefCo & SALT Network), Annabelle Thomas (AWW Mentors | General Counsel | L'Oréal), Livia Dyer (Partner | DLA Piper) and Lauren Salt (Executive | ENS).

The Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice is a program of the New York City Bar Association and is running the event under its Advancing Women in the Workplace (AWW) Program, in partnership with the South African Legal Fellows Alumni Network (SALFN) and the United States Embassy in Pretoria.
