It was just more than a month ago that I was busy penning a ‘think piece’ on the state of mental health in the African legal profession and referencing my own personal issues as both context and a motivator for others to share their own stories.What I didn’t expect at the time was the profound and positive response to this article and a subsequent follow-up.
Today Africa Legal is incredibly proud to be formally launching the ‘Ubuntu - Mental Health Matters’ (UMHM) initiative with the support of some fantastic organisations including: Baker McKenzie, Sefton Fross and Anjarwalla & Khanna.
UMHM’s initial focus is on building a repository of content which destigmatises mental health issues across our pan-African audiences and allows us to move towards collectively addressing the stark and debilitating impact that mental illness can bring.
We have an impressive amount of content and authors already lined up and I’m happy to direct you to the first of this content here, an article entitled ‘On The Agenda’ from Norton Rose Fulbright’s Head of Africa, Greg Nott.

With the assistance of our supporting organisations we will also be deploying entirely free-to-access mental health and wellbeing training via the Africa Legal platform in the coming months.
