Africa Legal Learn’s online training offering is growing each month, but that’s only possible with support from subject matter experts from around the globe who are prepared to share their knowledge. 3VB’s IADRU provides advisory, dispute resolution and pro bono services in developed and emerging markets, and has social responsibility at its core. The unit was the perfect partner for Africa Legal Learn.
Members of 3VB have a long history of acting for clients on a pro bono basis before the English courts, ensuring that those who need legal representation receive high quality representation, irrespective of their financial status. However, in November 2019, 3VB expanded their vision, launching IADRU to support members and associate members of Chambers providing pro bono and quasi pro bono services in the international arena.
The Unit has now joined forces with Africa Legal to help promote access to online legal training within Africa to lawyers and students throughout the continent as a means of addressing core skills and affordability gaps in the Africa legal market.
“The primary goal of 3 VB’s IADRU is to reinforce the drive for peace, justice and strong institutions, including promoting the rule of law and access to justice in a self-sustained way on an international stage,” said Ali Malek KC, Chair of Chambers at 3VB. “A significant number of our IADRU initiatives are aimed at strengthening the rule of law through capacity building and advisory work. The principal aim of our partnership with Africa Legal Learn is to improve access to high quality online legal training through capacity growth, and to increase accessibility and affordability.”
As one of the founding partners of the Africa Legal Learn offering, 3VB has once again demonstrated their international vision and will to engage in effective, high quality CSR projects in Africa. This follows on from other training opportunities they’ve provided to practitioners around the world, including a number of projects in Ghana, The Gambia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
An example of a partnership that works is the ongoing training partnership with Praxis Conflict Centre in Uganda, where barristers, alongside lawyers from East Africa, host arbitration workshops and seminars. Besides this, members led by Jane Davies Evans KC have worked with state corporations, AG chambers and others to host arbitration training sessions with a specific focus on construction, infrastructure and energy disputes.
IADRU also organises seminars and webinars, bringing together individuals from around the world to discuss issues that go to the heart of sustainable development: gender equality, diversity, transparency and accountability.
Keep checking the Africa Legal Learn platform and look out for announcements of more upcoming courses as a result of this partnership.
