Nature Conservancy nabs Kenyan corporate law star Sylvia Kithinji as new Associate General Counsel

Established in the US in 1951, The Nature Conservancy is a global environmental non-profit with more than 1 million members, impacting projects in 81 nations. As part of its African operations, it has now added Sylvia Kithinji as Associate General Counsel.
Kenyan corporate expert Sylvia Kithinji’s deep understanding of Africa’s legal landscape and her passion for purpose-driven work make her a tremendous asset as she joins the Nature Conservancy in Africa team, says Ademola Ajagbe, the Regional Managing Director of The Nature Conservancy's Africa program.
With a mission “to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends”, The Nature Conservancy has been operating for almost 75 years, and has grown to become one of the world’s most effective and wide-reaching environmental organisations. It has over a million members, a diverse staff, and more than 1,000 scientists impacting projects in 81 countries and territories.
It established its Africa Program in 2007, and now operates in Angola, Botswana, Gabon, Kenya, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia as it works toward “a sustainable future for people and nature in Africa” that is “rooted in its people … our conservation approach focuses on working with local communities, governments, and organisations to conserve and enhance Africa's shared resources.”
Kithinji, a corporate law expert who has led the Corporate and Commercial practices of leading Kenyan law firms Ashitiva Advocates and G&A Advocates in recent years, becomes Associate General Counsel, Africa for The Nature Conservancy. She will lead the non-profit’s Africa legal team, working closely with internal and external partners to help conserve and enhance Africa’s shared natural resources.
Throughout her career, which has also included roles Kenya’s Human Rights Commission and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, Kithinji has been instrumental in orchestrating a myriad of transformative deals and projects, leveraging on her ability to cultivate strong local and international partnerships to drive investment opportunities and economic growth in Kenya and Africa.
