Facilitating Clean Investment in Africa

Clean growth investment is a key aspect of future development across Africa, and the 2022 Africa Investment Conference, organised by the UK Department for International Trade, will focus heavily on this.

The virtual event which takes place on 20 January 2022, the second anniversary of the landmark UK-Africa Investment Summit, will be hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The first of three panel discussions will analyse how UK investment in the clean growth space has had a positive impact both in Africa and for UK business. The six panellists are all highly respected in business and investment circles in the UK and Africa.

“As co-chair of the Africa Investors Group and Chair of the Hogan Lovells Africa Practice, I will be discussing, with a panel of experts, their experience of investing and promoting investment on the continent across a range of sectors and economies. How this is influenced by a focus on clean-tech and ESG post COP26 and looking to COP27, as well as by the opportunities presented by AfCFTA, and the challenges and opportunities for Africa after Covid,” said Andrew Skipper, one of the panellists.

The second featured panel will discuss the UK’s financing offer and how clean growth projects across Africa can be supported. Key public and private sector players of the UK’s financing offer will outline where they fit along the financing spectrum and discuss how businesses can engage.

The final session of the day will explore what makes for an investable project. The panel will discuss what investors are looking for when making an investment and will draw upon the experiences of current investors as well as successful capital seekers to provide topical insights and advice to capital seekers. A call for proposals for prospective projects will also be issued.

The 2022 Africa Investment Conference will provide a platform for UK and African businesses to connect by encouraging deal origination, facilitating networking opportunities and raising visibility and interest in African opportunities. The conference is supported by the Africa Investors Group, a grouping of some of the UK’s largest investors in Africa.
