Beech Veltman Chief Executive Warren Beech said Koketso was recognised by the firm and its clients as a committed, highly valued and a capable key member of the team.
“Koketso is a phenomenal lawyer and we have no doubt that she will add tremendous value, on all levels, to our firm and our clients.”
Koketso said she had been fortunate to have received instructions in practice areas including commercial transactions within the mining and infrastructure arena, commercial litigation, regulatory and compliance work, administrative law and competition law to name a few.
“At heart, I am a litigant and a qualified intellectual property law practitioner,” she said.
Koketso served her articles in a general litigation department, and later specialised in intellectual property litigation.
“I have now branched out into what I like to call the ‘extreme sport’ of providing multi-disciplinary services in the mining, natural resources and infrastructure sectors.”
Currently, she is advising clients on competition law related matters, given the Competition Commission’s newly issued Guidelines for Competition in the South African Automotive Aftermarket, which came into effect on July 1, 2021.
“It is a fascinating guideline which has sparked dialogue on how role players in the automotive industry will trade going forward,” she said.
Koketso enjoys painting, hiking, interior design and watching cooking shows.
“I also find fulfilment in donating blood and delighting in the freebies that the SANBS provides.”
Becoming a partner has been one of her proudest moments. Before that it was becoming a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law in 2019 - just more than a year after being admitted as an attorney.
What most people don’t know about Koketso is that she is a Christmas fanatic with more than 10 pairs of Christmas earrings! She loves building gingerbread houses and decorating the Christmas tree.
“It is absolutely imperative that I watch Dr Suess’ ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ every year. Yes, every year! In fact, I only take my Christmas tree down closer to Valentine’s Day!”
