Entrepreneurs have many obstacles to overcome if they want their businesses to grow and succeed. Africa Legal and Liquid Labs have now collaborated to produce an hour-long course to help African entrepreneurs map their way forward.
You’ve got an incredible, creative, innovative idea for a business and you just know it will make waves, but there’s so much you don’t know about the “legal stuff” that’s involved. The Fundamentals of Business Law course is designed to help emerging African entrepreneurs lay the correct legal foundation, giving them a better chance of taking their initial concept through to the high-growth business stage.
Leading lawyers – Nelson Ashitiva of Ashitiva Advocates LLP and Alice Namuli Blazevic of KATS, along with Africa Legal’s Scott Cowan – will answer a number of questions including: When do I need a lawyer? How do I choose a lawyer? What business structures are available and how do I choose the right one? What does “governance” mean and what are the responsibilities of a director? What is the role of a board and do I need one? What is compliance and integrated reporting, and why are they important? What types of financing are available to grow my business?
In short, the course will help participants select the legal firm that is best suited to growing their business, become investment ready and investment worthy, align their foundations with their vision and strategy, and turn their idea into a successful business.
James Leach, Chief Learning Officer of Africa Professional Services Group, is excited about this opportunity to help African entrepreneurs get their business on the right footing. “Bridging the gap between emerging entrepreneurs and legal practitioners is absolutely critical! In my opinion this course fills a very important gap for African entrepreneurs. The insights and practical guidance from leading practitioners will help entrepreneurs maximize the impact of their initial discussions with their chosen legal partner,” he said.
This short, self-paced course will lead participants through real-world case studies and scenarios so they learn by example. A shortage of data is no issue as there’s an option to switch off the video, and download or read the transcript of the course. The other huge advantage is the discussion forums where participants can meet colleagues from around the world to share ideas.
