Legal tech can be your friend

In the current uncertain times within which we live, African lawyers face one certainty: legal technology is disrupting the way things are done and changing the nature of legal practice. Africa Legal and Liquid Intelligent Technologies have designed courses specifically to help lawyers in Africa navigate this road.

Many firms on the continent are now using legal technology to improve their efficiency and provide better service to clients. They have discovered that legal technology has the potential to enhance service delivery whilst reducing expenditure, produce more accurate budget projections, facilitate better project management, increase the rate of client responsiveness, and protect client information in a safer, more secure manner.

However, investing in legal technology is not a simple and straightforward process, and there are no one-size-fits-all solutions. Every firm and its context is different; specific solutions that optimise the efficiency in one firm may have an adverse impact on another. For example, a specific legal technology may not integrate properly with an existing suite of enterprise-wide technological solutions, thereby leading to wasted expenditure and a tool that provides more problems than solutions.

Ensuring an immediate return on investment is critical too. Effectively managing the change and disruption that new technologies may bring to your firm is crucial for achieving the outcomes you desire.

Finding creative solutions for business development is a challenge that many firms will continue to face in the new year and beyond. Not only can legal technology drive operational efficiency, but it can also enhance your firm’s reputation as being technologically driven, which is strategically advantageous. Modern clients gravitate towards law firms that deliver individualised, professional service and do so as efficiently and safely as possible.

The pandemic has highlighted the potential (and perhaps the necessity) of investing in legal technologies to grow legal firms. Not all legal technology is expensive, inaccessible, and difficult to understand, and law firms do not need to invest in complex AI-based technology. Most legal technologies are accessible, affordable, and designed to facilitate engagement with clients while driving efficiencies in your firm.

Africa Legal is proud to partner with Liquid Intelligent Technologies in creating new online legal courses designed for the modern lawyer in Africa. Together we’ve designed two new courses – Leveraging Legal Technology to Grow Your Firm and Change Management for Lawyers. A third course, the Fundamentals of Business Law for Entrepreneurs, is due to be released soon.
