Expertise and dedication to service delivery retains loyal clients

Beech Veltman Incorporated (BVI) recently marked its three-year anniversary. As the firm reflects on its journey, it was a time for celebration, gratitude and recognition of the unwavering support from its dedicated team and loyal clients.

As a law firm specialising in the mining and natural resources sector, when BVI set out on its ambitious endeavour on 1 July 2020, against the challenging backdrop of Covid-19, sceptics questioned the timing. Yet, with determination and faith, the team persevered. "The responses (to the firm’s launch) ranged from a polite raising of the eyebrows to outright 'Are you mad? It's Covid!’" recalls Warren Beech, CEO of Beech Veltman. However, what truly mattered was the indomitable spirit of the BVI team and the enduring trust of its long-standing clients.

The partners recall that the early months were a whirlwind of activity as BVI established its identity. These moments, filled with excitement and anticipation, symbolised the birth of a new venture that would soon make its mark in the mining and natural resources sector.

BVI's impact on the mining industry goes beyond legal expertise. The firm is privileged to work with a diverse array of stakeholders, including mining companies, service providers, regulators, trade unions and local communities. Through its holistic, multi-disciplinary approach, BVI offers a comprehensive range of services, from health, safety, and environmental matters, to commercial and mergers and acquisitions.

The partners –Warren Beech, Nicholas Veltman, Eben van Zyl, Melanie Hart and Stephen Nthite – concur that one of BVI's proudest accomplishments is its involvement in the development of South Africa's mining laws, and they relish the opportunities they get to lead discussions on important changes.

“Our goal is to remain relevant by continuing to be at the forefront of the interpretation and application of South Africa’s mining laws and, just as importantly, to help our clients navigate these changes before and after as they arise,” explained Beech. “We are also committed to continuing with our role of sharing information within the mining and natural resources sector and, where appropriate, facilitating discussions to benefit the industry as a whole.”

Looking ahead, BVI remains committed to making a lasting impact in the mining and natural resources sector. The firm’s vision is to continue working hand in hand with key stakeholders who play a vital role in the growth and development of South Africa’s economy.

BVI’s dedication to remaining responsive, practical, and relevant ensures its clients receive exceptional service and unwavering support. “We often have to partner with our clients in some of the worst situations, and we are there for our clients when they need us most,” explained Beech, clarifying what it is that keeps their clients loyal.

As part of the three-year anniversary celebrations BVI took the opportunity to refresh its look and feel. This symbolic act signifies the firm’s commitment to continuous growth and understanding of the legal and business dynamics in the mining and natural resources sector. “As the saying goes, if you are standing still, you are not moving forward, and we don’t want to stand still – we are always looking at new ways of assisting our clients and we will continue to do so,” emphasised Beech.
