Now in their tenth year, the awards recognise exceptional achievements from within Africa’s legal community. Each year the African Legal Awards garner entries from a wide pan-African audience, and in 2022 over 500 submissions were received from 20 countries across Africa.

“Over the last few years we have worked with ALM Law.com to broaden participation at the awards, encouraging greater representation from the legal community across east, west, north and southern Africa.  It is a pleasure to see the stars of the Africa legal community from all corners of the globe being celebrated,” said Scott Cowan, Africa Legal’s CEO. “It is also a unique opportunity to come together, face to face, and collaborate even further in the delivery of outstanding legal services.”

The 2023 nominations are now open; the full list of categories can be found here and the registration portal here. Deadline for submissions is 28 April 2023, with the winners being announced at the awards ceremony on 1 September 2023 in Johannesburg.

A few of the big winners in 2022 were Webber Wentzel which took home seven awards including African Law Firm of the Year: Mid-Large Sized Practice, ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna which received two awards, Herbert Smith Freehills which won Alternative Service Provider of the Year, and Lopes Attorneys which picked up the award for Specialist Law Firm of the Year.
