Redefining Possibilities: Dentons further builds its pan-African presence by officially launching in Cameroon

The world’s largest global law firm, Dentons, has today added to its broad footprint and rapid recent expansion across Africa by announcing the official launch of Dentons KMN, a full-service law firm based in Douala, Cameroon.

The launch today of Dentons KMN (formerly Kouengoua Minou Nkongho) in Doula, Cameroon, the latest in several new Dentons offices in Africa, brings together a powerful combination of global experience and local expertise that will deliver exceptional legal services, said Kate Barton, Global CEO of Dentons.

“Dentons is thrilled to help build on the prestigious reputation our new team has established in Cameroon and beyond,” continued Barton. “As Cameroon’s economy continues to grow and attract international investment, we are well-placed to guide clients through emerging opportunities and complex legal landscapes.”

Established in 1984, leading Cameroon firm Kouengoua Minou Nkongho (KMN) has a long history of managing complex cross-border legal matters, servicing clients across Africa and beyond. Founder Mr Kouengoua has built a distinguished legal career, and is recognized as a leading authority in Cameroon’s oil and gas sector.

Throughout Kouengoua’s career he also served as Treasurer and Secretary General at the Cameroon Bar Council for several years, and as lead Counsel at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha. His contributions to legal practice and policy development have earned him multiple accolades, celebrating his leadership and influence in the legal industry across Cameroon.

Cameroon’s role as a major transit hub positions it as a gateway for global business activity, says Dentons, the world’s largest global law firm. The Central African nation’s wealth of natural resources has fuelled growth across the oil and gas, mining, and agricultural sectors, driving sustained demand for legal services. In future, continued infrastructure development and regional integration are expected to unlock even greater opportunities for investment and legal advisory across key industries.

“The launch of our presence in Cameroon strengthens our commitment to offering exceptional service for our clients in and outside of Africa,” said Mohamed Zaanouni, the CEO of Dentons’ Africa Region. “We are excited to work with our new colleagues and help clients explore opportunities in this promising market.”

Strategically positioned at the gateway to Central Africa, Cameroon is located at the crossroads of West and Central Africa, sharing borders with Nigeria, Chad, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea, with a coastline on the Gulf of Guinea. It is a leading economy in the region, with a GDP of over US$45 billion and a diverse population of nearly 30 million, supporting a dynamic business environment that attracts foreign investors and multinational companies.

As reported by Africa Legal, in recent months Dentons has rapidly expanded its African footprint by partnering with leading local law firms and launching Dentons offices in Ethiopia in October, the Democratic Republic of the Congo in November, and then in Dakar, Senegal earlier this month with Dentons Legalix.

With this afternoon’s announcement of the launch of Dentons KMN in Cameroon, the world’s largest global law firm now has a presence in 25 locations in 17 African nations, with more than 280 lawyers with ‘boots on the ground’ across the continent.
