ALN Tanzania bolsters cross-border disputes prowess with Yassin Maka as Head of Litigation

One of Tanzania’s pre-eminent, full service corporate and commercial law firms, ALN Tanzania | A&K Tanzania is a leading regional powerhouse based in Dar es Salaam. It has now further strengthened its high-value multi-jurisdictional disputes expertise by welcoming Yassin Maka as Head of Litigation.

The appointment of Yassin Maka as Head of Litigation for ALN Tanzania | A&K Tanzania underscores ALN’s continued investment in building one of the leading independent disputes practices in Africa, says Karim Anjarwalla, a Board Director of ALN whose ‘visionary leadership has been the driving force’ behind ALN’s growth.

“As disputes across the continent become more complex, cross-border and strategically significant, clients require advisors who can provide consistent, high-quality counsel across jurisdictions,” continues Anjarwalla. “Strengthening our capability in key markets such as Tanzania is central to that ambition.”

An Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania and a certified arbitrator, Yassin’s experience spans private practice and in-house roles, including as Group Legal Counsel for Toyota Tanzania. Most recently a partner at Lawfic Attorneys, Yassim has advised multinational corporations, financial institutions, international investors and SMEs on a range of commercial, regulatory and tax-related disputes.

“I am delighted to join ALN Tanzania at a time when the disputes landscape in Tanzania and across East Africa is becoming increasingly complex and high stakes,” shared Yassin as his appointment was announced., adding that he was looking forward to contributing to the continued growth of the firm’s already well-recognised disputes practice. “ALN Tanzania’s deep local knowledge, combined with ALN’s broader regional expertise and collaborative model, uniquely positions the firm to support clients on key domestic and multi-jurisdictional disputes.”

Importantly, says the firm, Yassin joining ALN Tanzania further strengthens ALN’s ability to deliver seamless, multi-jurisdictional disputes services in Tanzania and across East Africa, combining deep local expertise and international experience with a fully integrated regional platform. Such capability is a “key differentiator” in a market where clients increasingly require coordinated teams to manage disputes with significant financial, operational, and reputational implications.

Yassin’s appointment as Head of Litigation for ALN Tanzania continues the growth of the firm’s leadership in recent years. Last year the firm added leading corporate lawyer and cross-border expert Chris Green, who returned to Tanzania after several years as Managing Partner of Hogan Lovells in South Africa, then English-qualified solicitor Edward Williams, who has over a decade of corporate finance experience on the African continent and joined as a Director from Russell Solicitors in London.

“Yassin’s appointment significantly strengthens our ability to handle complex, high-value disputes in Tanzania and across the region,” says Geofrey Dimoso, Country Partner at ALN Tanzania. “Clients are increasingly facing matters involving regulatory intervention and cross-border enforcement. Yassin brings the depth of experience and commercial judgement required to navigate these challenges and deliver outcomes that are both legally robust and commercially strategic.”
