Future of law is trusted, tech-enabled, and human at its core, says Njoroge

Technology and data protection expert Herbert Njoroge has shared his thoughts on the future of legal practice while revealing he’s been promoted to Senior Manager at PwC Kenya.

The lawyer of the future will be more than a technical legal expert, says Herbert Njoroge, who has been promoted to Senior Manager at PwC Kenya. “They will be a trusted business advisor, a strategic problem solver, and an AI-enabled professional who delivers greater value, deeper insight, and better outcomes for clients.”

Sharing the news of his promotion on social media, technology law and data protection expert Njoroge took the opportunity to discuss his excitement for the future of a transforming legal profession, and the opportunity to contribute to it.

“As legal services continue to evolve across Kenya, Africa, and beyond, I am committed to evolving with them by continuing to learn, innovate, and help clients navigate legal, regulatory, and business challenges with confidence,” he added.

A law graduate of The Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Njoroge began his legal career as a trainee advocate with Kaplan & Stratton Advocates in Nairobi, spending five years there before joining Ashitiva Advocates as a Senior Associate. In late 2022 he went in-house, becoming the Manager, Legal Business Solutions for PwC Kenya.

Promotion to Senior Manager at PwC Kenya is “a significant milestone” in his legal career, shared Njoroge today, acknowledging PwC Kenya’s leadership for the trust and confidence they’ve placed in him. “I am immensely grateful to Titus Mukora for his steady leadership and constant ‘out of the box’ thinking which has challenged my view of legal services, how I think and show up as a legal professional.”

Njoroge also acknowledged Caroline Wanja “for being a gentle and wise guide, and constant cheerleader”, along with his colleagues in the Pwc Kenya Legal Business Solutions Team, and partners and colleagues in Tax, Risk Assurance Services, Forensics, Performance and Restructuring Services and Deals Teams; a “dynamic blend of professionals” who he learns so much from, and make work worthwhile.

That work is changing, says Njoroge, who also volunteers as a Team Leader at Africa Let’s Worship, and a Director of Merlik Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Kenya whose mission is to educate and mentor teenage boys.

In the shadow of rapid technological change, the legal profession is transforming, but Njoroge is looking ahead to a promising future for legal services - not replaced by AI, but trusted, technology-enabled, and human at its core.
