Challenging orthodoxies and finding solutions: GC Forum on Governance, Risk & Compliance 2025 Website Now Live

On 17 September, a pioneering GC Forum | Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) will be held in Johannesburg. Today, Africa Legal is excited to launch the dedicated event website and reveal some speaker highlights for this groundbreaking event.
We are excited to announce that the dedicated event website for our upcoming GC Forum | Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) is now live.
Set for 17 September 2025 at the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff in Johannesburg, this must-attend event runs alongside the biennial IBA African Regional Forum Conference, and reflects the growing strategic role of legal leaders in today's dynamic business and regulatory landscape
Delivered in partnership with Afriwise, the GC Forum GRC’s theme, “Bridging the Gap | Navigating Business, Law and Geopolitics”, centres on the external threats and shocks that in-house general counsel face more regularly than ever, the practicalities of creating a pan African cross-border legal function, and ethical decisionmaking in the era of AI.
“It’s encouraging that GRC has moved from a niche topic to a board-level imperative — but let’s be honest: many boards are still in catch-up mode,” says Steven De Backer, founder and CEO of Afriwise. “Africa rewards those who anticipate change, not those who react to it.”
The GC Forum is designed to go beyond the usual conference conversations, with open, frank, and detailed discussions about solving specific problems, and attendees really learning from each other. “At the GC Forum, we don’t want polite panels that state the obvious,” Steven says. “We’re bringing senior counsel and compliance leaders together to challenge orthodoxies, debate hard truths, and leave with solutions they can implement the next morning.”
Speaker highlights include:
Anastasia Posokhov, Regional Head of Legal: Africa, Middle East and India, Aggreko
Nigel Maramba, Senior Legal Counsel Southern Africa, Unilever South Africa Pty Ltd
Susan Batuuka, Company Secretary and Head of Legal, Uganda National Airlines
Chrissy Dube, Head of Department: Governance Insights and Analytics, Good Governance Africa
Mpumi Mazibuko, Independent Legal/Business Advisor/General Counsel
Oyinlola Adebayo LL.M, FCIS, FCIArb (UK), Company Secretary & Assistant Vice Counsel, Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria
Delegate sessions run from keynote presentations through to rapid-fire regional insight panels, capped by a networking reception. Highlights include “Legal Leadership at the Heart of Strategy, Risk, and Business Survival,” and the ethics-focused segment, “Integrity Under Pressure.”
The event is free to attend for:
