To lead and manage the functions of the legal department of SACNASP

Tasks will include:

The main responsibility is to head the legal department by drafting and reviewing contracts, drafting relevant regulatory documents, and providing legal advice to SACNASP management and Council.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

• Manages legal business matters pertaining to the organization.
• Provide compliance and legal support services to SACNASP.
• Provide legal and administrative support to the Professional Conduct Committee.
• Facilitate the development of SACNASP’s strategic and operational risk register and develop appropriate reporting systems.
• Manages the process and drafting of legislative instruments, legal agreements, and contracts.
• Manage the development and periodic review of policies, and advise best practices on legislation related to SACNASP’s mandate.
• Provide an effective and efficient system to investigate complaints.
• Management of litigation for and against the Council.
• Oversee and manage the work of the legal practitioner, legal secretary, and performance thereof.
• Liaise with external legal service provider/s and other key stakeholders on legal and related matters on behalf of SACNASP.

Desired Experience & Qualification

The Suitable incumbent will have:

• Must have a Master’s degree in law.
• Must be an Admitted Attorney or Bar Advocate
• Must have at least five years post article experience at a law firm or legal department of Government or public entity.
• Sound knowledge of Government legislation, policies and procedures
• Must be computer literate.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must be able to communicate in a professional manner.
