The Opportunity 
IHS Towers is expanding our global footprint and we are seeking Analyst, Legal to join our growing team in South Africa. 

Purpose    

The Analyst, Legal- Novation will play a core role in the transition of over 5,000 telecommunications tower sites from MTN to IHS South Africa, ensuring the ground leases are novated and meet the terms required by IHS and ensuring all other permits and approvals are in place to allow operation of the sites.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Review ground leases for each Site to be novated from MTN to IHS South Africa to confirm that the existing ground lease includes the required provisions and meets the terms required by IHS (to be provided in the form of a checklist/template).
• Support the local law firm and the internal legal resources at MTN and IHS South Africa to the extent the lease needs to be amended to meet the minimum requirements
• Review the title documents to confirm that description in the ground lease matches the legal description of the premises.
• Review POAs and other supporting documents to confirm that the signatories on the documents have the requisite authority to bind the landlord.
• Review the permits and other approvals in the site file to the extent required to allow operation of the sites.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Education

• Law degree or equivalent

Experience

• Qualified lawyer (preferred) or experienced Paralegal
• 1 to 3 years of experience in Corporate, Commercial and/or real estate transaction environment required, including but not limited to landlord-tenant relations, development & construction and permitting regulation
• Previous experience in the Telecommunications industry desirable but not essential. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Bilingual in Afrikaans/English
