Role overview
An exciting opportunity exists within the Group Legal team to provide legal solutions to complex legal and business challenges within Old Mutual and its associated companies. This role aims to mitigate against legal risk and partner with the business on the implementation of policies to comply with legal and regulatory requirements and business processes. This role is also focused on fostering sound legal advice within Old Mutual and its associated companies. May provide work leadership and mentoring to less experienced legal advisors.
Key Result Areas
Legal Services
• Providing advanced or specialist legal support.
• Vetting or drafting commercial agreements and other legal documents.
• Managing litigation and ADR.
• Providing legal opinions/advice.
• Providing legal support and guidance to the business in respect of various projects.
• Assist in the management of the global trademark portfolio
Risk Management
• Contributes to the appropriate management of both legal and other risk within areas of responsibility.
Stakeholder Management
• Assisting internal clients with advice on legislation and alignment of business processes and contracts in accordance with legislation.
• Potentially representing Old Mutual in interactions with regulatory authorities and financial services industry bodies.
• Providing holistic and commercially minded solutions to clients.
• Managing legal costs, litigation and opinions for internal clients when external legal services providers are utilized.
Personal/Management Effectiveness
• Accountable for timeous service delivery through own efforts.
• Collaborates effectively with others to achieve personal results.

Requirements:
Skills, Qualifications and Experience required
Qualifications, Skills And Required Experience
• LLB or equivalent.
• Must be an admitted attorney.
• Have a minimum of 5 years’ exposure to a legal practice or in-house legal department (post having been admitted as an attorney).
• Proven experience in the financial services sector including a sound knowledge of legislation and regulatory directives/guidelines pertinent to the long-term insurance industry.
• Experience in company law, JSE listing requirements, competition law and high court litigation will be advantageous.
• Effective communication skills with stakeholders across all levels, particularly senior and executive management.
• Have an organized, structured and result orientated approach to work.
• Be adaptable and able to cope with a dynamic environment.
• Be reliable, have integrity and display a professional approach.
• Have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Excellent analytical and writing skills with attention to detail, logical thought processes and sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information both from internal and external sources.
• Excellent organisational, people, planning and prioritising skill
