The M&A/Corporate Group is now seeking an enthusiastic senior associate to join our growing team. We draw from our multidisciplinary capabilities in finance, tax, and competition and other relevant practice areas to help reduce risk and optimize value throughout the deal life cycle. The team is part of the wider Global Mergers & Acquisitions practice which spans 47 countries and includes more than 1,200 M&A lawyers with authentic knowledge of local regulations and transaction management procedures, in varied deal contexts.

This position offers a competitive salary and package in line with applicant's experience and skill set.
Advising local and multinational clients on all aspects of domestic and cross-border M&A/Corporate transactions. Associates work in a collegiate environment, for a range of partners, and can expect a good variety of work.
Associates are given regular and direct contact with clients, with a culture based on associates being given the level of responsibility they are ready for, rather than a PQE based method of work allocation.
Developing relationships with clients including gaining a good knowledge of the client’s businesses, economic drivers, market and sector requirements in order to ensure advice is relevant and commercial.
There are opportunities for secondments with clients. Posting to other offices under the firm's associate transfer programme is also a possibility.
Engaging in business development activities and being active in the promotion of the firm and seeking opportunities for new work.
Working as part of a team including assisting with the supervision of junior lawyers’ work, and taking an active part in sharing knowledge and experience with the team.
Job Holder Requirements
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate all or the majority of the following:
A South African qualified lawyer with excellent academics credentials
Current experience in the M&A department of a leading firm or niche practice, with considerable exposure to all facets of transactional work, including transaction management, due diligence, negotiation, preparation of transaction documents, regulatory compliance and implementation
First rate technical skills needed to support the client work of the department
Strong research capabilities and confidence, with partner guidance, to move outside "comfort zone"
Commerciality and demonstrable business development experience
Excellent written communication and drafting skills
