JOB PURPOSE
To assess, advise on, and mitigate legal, commercial, reputational and regulatory risks and opportunities facing the organisation
JOB OBJECTIVES
• Supporting the day to day commercial operations and assisting in the achievement of strategic business objectives; and mitigating legal and regulatory risk by drafting and vetting contracts and other commercial documents;
• Assisting the organisation in realising strategic business objectives and mitigating legal and regulatory risks by negotiating with counterparties on contracts and other commercial documents in order to achieve favourable outcomes;
• Supporting the Head of Legal and Legal Executive on strategic commercial matters by conferring on strategy, researching law, reviewing prepared advice and accompaniment in engagements with Senior Management;
• Providing input on legal strategy to internal stakeholders for significant matters impacting the organisation.
• Supporting the group’s management of its intellectual property, and in particular engaging with and managing the group’s external intellectual property lawyers. The role may also be required to provide some support to general dispute resolution, which may include the management of external legal service providers.
• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to obtain relevant information to determine how a legal or operational matter is handled.
• Supporting the use and management of the contract management system.
• Maintaining ethical standards across all legal processes by ensuring that matters are handled honestly and with integrity (as required by being a legal officer) and that dealings with counterparties are not undertaken in an underhanded or unscrupulous manner.
• Developing efficiencies and processes within the Legal Department (such as by supporting the management of the contract management and contract drafting systems) and broadly within the organisation (by identifying work methods to easily facilitate negotiations with counterparties.)
