About the Role:

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Address matters on contract compliance to legislation
  • Quality assure information loaded onto database, as and when required
  • Review issuance of letter on right of appearance (certificate issued to authorize appearance in district court and / or regional court) to legal practitioner and candidate legal practitioner
  • Verify compliance of cession of PVT in accordance with legislation
  • Attend to enquiries on applications to address post registration non-compliance issues
  • Monitor smooth running of the examination process in the province in accordance with legislation
  • Attend to escalated regulatory issues pertaining to examinations i.e. eligibility of candidate
  • Review reports submitted on examinations carried out
  • Monitor applications submitted for admissions and ensure compliance with legal framework
  • Referral of re-admission applications to the regulatory department for consideration and recommendations to the Council
  • Referral of applications by struck-off practitioners for permission to be employed in legal practitioners’ offices to Provincial Council
  • Approve of right of appearance in High Court for conversions to ensure compliance with legislation
  • Monitor all administration of records to ensure compliance with the legislative framework
  • Facilitate the process of applications for the Fidelity Fund certifications and attend to related queries
  • Prepare agenda Provincial Affairs Committee and ensure implementation of resolutions
  • Prepare items relating to Professional Affairs for submission to Council
  • Liaise with Regulatory and Risk and Compliance departments to interpret and understand court order decisions to ensure records reflect court order decisions and Staff supervision

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric/Grade 12 Certificate
  • Law Degree
  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner
  • 3 years post admission experience in a legal environment or in a professional regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of Legal Practice Act, No 28 of 2014
  • Section 109 Regulation
  • Code of Conduct for all Legal Practitioners & Court Rules
