About the General Counsel Role
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and working with the rest of the Global Operations team and liaising with our country offices, the General Counsel will lead or contribute to the following dynamic and varied efforts:Review and negotiating of legal grant and project agreements: Timely review of all project agreements with clients and partners, review of all grant agreements and tracking of legal obligations and covenants across the organization. Handling day to day legal needs: Advise on HR and employment law matters; review all legal documents including employment offers and templates, leases and any other as they arise.Advising on intellectual property: Ensuring that IDinsight is in compliance with all grant and contractual agreements regarding intellectual property, and working with internal teams and outside counsel to protect IDinsight’s intellectual property. Serve as liaison with outside counsel: Work with outside counsel on specialized matters, recruit and liaise with pro bono counsel for additional support, and manage outside counsel in IDinsight countries of operation to ensure compliance with local law. Advisory to senior leadership: Train our leaders on legal matters that may arise in their roles and continue to be a thought partner and advisor to them in their lines of work. Help translate legal/compliance/risk matters for leadership.Leading risk mitigation/management and compliance: Support IDinsight’s internal risk assessments, develop and draft internal policies and protocols to mitigate and manage risk.Contribution to organization building and development: Contribute to developing IDinsight into a world-class organization by lending expertise and training.
JD from accredited law school;5-10 years of progressively responsible legal experience, preferably in-house with an international nonprofit organization or corporation, or an international law firm;Admitted to practice and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction;
Experience with most or all of the following areas of law: transactional law, employment law, intellectual property, data privacy and security, tax-exempt organization tax and governance and/or willingness to quickly develop proficiency in any areas of deficit;Willingness to roll up sleeves and handle all aspects of organization’s legal needs from routine tasks to high level strategy discussions with executive team.
