The Marketing and Communications Manager will be responsible for leading, managing and supporting numerous strategic projects and initiatives furthering our external and internal marketing and communications goals, including placing the alliance and its member firms as thought leaders on the continent, bringing the ALN and AKI digital marketing profiles to the forefront of the African legal landscape at the regional and international levels, coordinating a variety of campaigns and initiatives and ensuring optimal implementation, dissemination and optimisation of information.
The suitable candidate will work under the Head of Business Development, Marketing & Communications and closely with the team members in the Marketing & Communications section of the Business Development department to champion the content and digital marketing strategies across a range of proactive, reactive and strategically planned opportunities in digital media, including intranet, website and social media.
Core areas of responsibility:
Support the Head of Business Development in developing the content and digital marketing strategies for Business Development.
Support the development of content for marketing collateral, including daily, weekly and monthly internal and external newsletters, publications and social media.
Manage the implementation of ALN’s and AKI’s content approach across all platforms and ensure that execution is in-line with plans.
Implement digital marketing approaches, including content management, SEO, mass mailing and social media.
Develop a web strategy covering ALN’s website.
Manage all social media activities on multiple platforms, including managing the digital brand calendar.
Work on content creation and updating the digital media, including intranet, website and social media.
Prepare digital media analytics reports.
Design and develop creative digital marketing presentations, briefings, etc. that will maximise ALN’s and AKI’s brand presence.
Work on regular internal and external mailings and ensuring timely dissemination.
Ensure user data is captured in line with our CRM and data management strategies and that the storage and use of it complies with Data Protection laws.
Evaluate emerging technologies in digital marketing and provide perspective for adoption where appropriate.
Monitor the social media marketplace to stay abreast of trends, identify opportunities and emerging issues, and understand new technologies and their adoption.
Support ALN and AKI through training on digital and social media management and relevant policies.
Carry out varied administrative work as necessary.
Experience and personal qualities
This role will require a high calibre and experienced marketing and communications professional with the highest levels of ambition and commitment.
The following experience is preferred:
Degree qualification (preferably in Marketing, Media, Communications or Journalism). Masters qualification (preferably in Communication, Digital Marketing, Media or Journalism) will be an added advantage.
Proven working experience in content and digital marketing in international organisations or professional services firms.
Demonstrable experience leading and managing SEO, marketing database, mass mailing, social media or advertising campaigns.
Solid knowledge of website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Net Insight, Omniture, Web Trends).
Knowledge of SEO and web traffic metrics.
Working knowledge of HTML and web publishing and constraints.
Experience in optimising landing pages and user funnels.
Working knowledge of ad serving tools (e.g., DART, Atlas).
Experience in setting up and optimising Google AdWords campaigns.
Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking.
Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement.
Have an excellent understanding of how to use digital marketing tools and techniques to increase the visibility, profile and reputation of ALN and AKI.
Good understanding of the legal market is an advantage.
Experience in developing and managing strong and complex relationships across countries as part of a centralised function and externally with multiple stakeholders.
Excellent project management skills.
Proficient in the use of IT Systems including Microsoft Office packages.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly with a range of people from diverse backgrounds.
A minimum of at least five (5) years of relevant work experience.
