Our RCL FOODS Head Office in Westville (Durban) is currently looking for an Associate Legal Advisor to join our legal team! The Associate Legal Advisor will report into the Legal Advisor. The successful incumbent will be entrusted to provide effective legal support services; drive the implementation of the legal agenda within the business. The Associate Legal Advisor will also be entrusted to ensure everything is in accordance with the policies, procedures and work allocation of the Legal Department.
Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) & Must be an admitted attorney A stellar academic record: RCL FOODS seeks to recruit candidates who have achieved excellent academic grades consistently throughout their education. The work of a Legal Advisor is intellectually rigorous, demanding and you must be able to show that you have the intelligence and ability to absorb, assimilate and analyse complex material very quickly. Relevant experience in legal practice or in a corporate environment as in-house counsel (1-3 years) Knowledge Sound knowledge of Labour legislation and practices (CCMA / Bargaining Council) Sound knowledge of South African Law Understanding of sugar, logistic & poultry industries (FMCG sector) Group policies and procedures Skills Computer literacy Contract drafting Verbal and written communication / report writing Interpersonal Negotiation Analytical skills Problem solving Administrative and organisation Collaboration and influencing skills Leadership and project management skills Commercial Acumen The Legal Advisor also fulfills the role of sound business advisor. Commercial awareness is essential, and the Legal Advisor is expected to appreciate the commercial context in which he / she provides legal advice.
Duties & Responsibilities
Providing support for the effective management of disputes and litigation in the commercial litigation and labour litigation practice areas (including hearings in the CCMA and/or Bargaining Council, if necessary); Providing legal advice in respect of employment law matters and drafting/reviewing collective agreements; Clear and detailed understanding of existing internal legal policies and procedrues in order to advise business on best practice Provide guidance and support on legal queries to functions outside of the legal team; Provide effective Resolution to legal queries with established procedures and legislation, draw on support of the Legal Advisor when required; Drafting, reviewing and negotiation of agreements and other commercial and legal documents; Liaising with the company’s internal procurement function to manage the contracting process; Providing support in the development and implementation of the legal compliance programme and providing legal advice on compliance matters; Liaising with the Company’s conveyancers for the processing of property transactions; Legal research; Prepare reports, briefing notes, reports and internal communication; Provide suggestions on improved practices and processes; Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of changes within legislation; Co-ordinate and execute legal projects and assignments delegated by the Group Legal Advisor.
