Duties & Responsibilities
Primary attorney responsible for one or more of the following areas: Employment, Commercial and Company Law, litigation and other operational commercial issues including supporting Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain including Distribution Centre and the rest of the direct selling business.
The incumbent will be responsible for managing and directing all legal affairs issues, including oversight of litigation, for the designated function(s). This position will be responsible for managing the budget and hiring of external counsel as necessary and reporting to TMEA Legal Counsel. The incumbent in this position will provide both legal advice and counsel to Management, and is responsible for managing the entire legal process, including negotiation of legal fees and querying of bills, contract manufacturer negotiations and interactions, formulating legal strategy, talent acquisition and development, as appropriate.
Working independently and as part of the TMEA Legal function providing legal guidance to the Southern Africa leadership team, ensures that the company complies with country, industry legislation and regulations. Ensures that the interests of the company are protected at all times. Provides strategic legal guidance and Risk Management for major business initiatives such as Brochure compliance, Pricing & Discounting compliance, all advertising forums and CAT support, Product ranges, Consumer Issues etc. Minimizes the legal risk of non-compliance with all aspects of legislation, unfair contractual obligations and inadequacy of contracts. Manages, protects and registers various IP’s with dedicated law firm as defined by Global Legal Department
Manages the Avon Compliance process and ensure adherence working closely with the Global Compliance Division. Be the sounding board in country for Regulatory Affairs based in TMEA. Builds relationships internally and externally
This position will be expected to cover the SA market but will provide strategic legal guidance on new market entries in Southern Africa and other African Markets.
Provide Legal Secretarial services for the company and sit on the Board of Directors
The role is represented and serves on the SA Leadership Committee
Desired Experience & Qualification
LLB (admitted advocate) and MBA or equivalent
15+ years Post qualification experience in a commercial/corporate multinational environment as a Snr Manager or Department Head
Specialist knowledge in of commercial and contract, employment and company law
